Seasons: Earth's Coolest Trick
Seasons: Earth's Coolest Trick

With Spring starting a few days ago, you may be curious why we have seasons. There are four seasons in a year: spring, summer, fall (autumn), and winter. Each season is different because the Earth moves around the Sun in a way that makes some parts of the world warmer or cooler at different times. Let’s explore each season!
Spring: A Time for New Beginnings
Spring is a time when the weather gets warmer, and flowers start to bloom. It happens after winter when the days get longer and the sun shines more. In spring, trees start growing new leaves, and animals come out of hibernation. Birds build nests, and baby animals, like lambs and chicks, are born. People also celebrate spring with fun activities like planting flowers and going on nature walks. In many places, spring is also a time when it rains more, which helps plants grow.
Summer: The Warmest Season
Summer is the hottest season of the year. The days are long, and the sun shines brightly. This is when people enjoy outdoor activities like swimming, playing sports, and having barbecues. Summer is a favorite time for vacations and going to the beach. Many fruits and vegetables grow during summer, like strawberries, watermelon, and tomatoes. Summer is also when kids have a break from school, so it’s a great time for fun adventures and spending time outside.
Fall (Autumn): A Season of Change
Fall is a season when the weather starts to cool down. The leaves on trees turn beautiful colors like red, yellow, and orange before they fall to the ground. Fall is also the time when crops like pumpkins, apples, and corn are harvested. It’s the season of Halloween, with costumes and candy, and Thanksgiving, a time for family and feasting. The days get shorter, and the air becomes crisp, making it the perfect time for cozy sweaters and hot drinks like apple cider.
Winter: The Coldest Season
Winter is the coldest season of the year. The days are shorter, and the nights are longer. In many places, it snows during winter, making everything look white and beautiful. People enjoy winter by building snowmen, ice skating, and having fun in the snow. Winter holidays like Christmas and New Year’s happen during this time. As the season goes on, the cold makes trees lose their leaves, and many animals either hibernate or grow thick coats to stay warm.
Why Do We Have Seasons?
Seasons happen because Earth is tilted as it orbits around the Sun. Imagine Earth is like a spinning top, but it leans over a little bit. Because of this tilt, different parts of Earth get more or less sunlight during the year. When a place gets lots of sunlight, it’s warmer and that’s summer. When it gets less sunlight, it’s cooler, and that’s winter. In between, we have spring and fall when the weather is just right. This is how we get the four seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter!
Each season is special, bringing its fun activities and changes in nature. Isn’t it amazing how the Earth’s journey around the Sun creates such different weather all year long?
